Friends

"A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though she knows that you are slightly cracked."

"Friends are the most important ingredient in this recipe of life"

"Friends are God's way of taking care of us."

Today I went to lunch with an old friend. (She is my age so of course I'm not saying that she is old! You know what I mean.) We were in the same married ward at the University of Utah. She was sitting in front of me in Sacrament meeting the first time we went to church. She was nibbling on crackers because of the morning sickness she was experiencing with her first pregnancy. We spent a lot of time together as young married couples. My most embarrassing moment in my whole life even happened at their house. (Hi Darren) We don't see each other much anymore so it sure was fun to catch up.

Tomorrow I'm going to lunch with a friend that lived three houses from me growing up. The last time I spoke with her was when she called me after Eric died. Last week her brother died. It's too bad that life gets so busy that it takes a tragedy to reconnect.

I have been blessed with such wonderful friends throughout my life. I am so grateful for each one of you and everything that you have done (and still do!!) for me. I am one lucky girl!!

Megan's Christmas wish

Last night Becca and Megan were telling me what they wanted for Christmas. Megan mentioned that she wanted a guitar. I ask her why and she told me that she wanted one so she could play it when she was sad. I think the girl has seen one too many Disney channel movies!!

Temple

Today after church I forced the kids (none of them were too thrilled with the idea) to go have their pictures taken in front of the new Day Break Temple. (I know that is not the name, but we can't remember what it is going to be called. Is is Oquirrh Mountain, Oquirrh Hills, Oquirrh something? Anyone?) Anyway, I thought it would be neat for them to have a scrapbook page so they can remember watching it be built. I'm still kicking myself for not taking pictures the day we watched them putting the Angel Moroni on top, because that would have made another cool scrapbook page!! Even though they all think I am a dork right now, I'm hoping that someday they will appreciate it. (and everything else I do for them !!)

Standing by the new Temple and looking over the valley you can see the Draper Temple and where the Jordan River and Salt Lake Temples are. I need to remember the huge responsibility we have living here and be better about my Temple attendance! Especially now that I will only have to drive 2 miles instead of the whole ten minutes it takes me to get to Jordan River.
( I just thought I better add this disclaimer. It was not my kids that knocked down the fence!!)

Big the Musical

The kids, my mom and I went to see Big the Musical at Hale Centre Theatre. It was great. It was pretty much just like the movie. They even had the big keyboard on the floor. It took me on a trip down memory lane because it is set in the 1980's. The clothes and hairstyles were awesome!

Becca's egg project

Becca's assignment in her science class was to build a contraption that would protect an egg when dropped off the roof of the school. My friend Carrie volunteered her husband Mark to help. They tried a few different things using tissue paper, 44 oz cups, boxes and gift bags, but Mark finally found the greatest idea of all on the internet. He put rice krispies in a Dora the Explorer sippy cup with the egg in the middle and then taped the lid on. It was amazing. He would throw it up into the air and it would hit the pavement, but the egg would not break. The rice krispies would need to be changed each time he did it because they would pretty much turn into powder, but the egg was fine! Mark is now our official weird homework assignments helper. Hopefully we will not see a for sale sign in front of his house when he finds out!!
(P.S. for some reason that we can't explain the only time it broke was when her teacher tried it at school. Go figure!!)

Liberty Lake, Washington

We recently spent a fun few days in Liberty Lake, WA visiting our Yost cousins. The kids had a great time being with their cousins and I enjoyed a break from "real life". The highlight of the trip was boating on Hayden Lake. All of the kids loved riding on the tube and after a few tries, a very patient uncle and a lot of cheering both Becca and Devin were able to knee board. Thanks Al and Stacey!! We had a blast!!

The new van

After ten years of loyal service and a ton of money spent on gas our Expedition has left our family. We are now the proud owners of a dark gray Honda Odyssey. The kids used to want to stay home and play with friends whenever I would run errands, but now they want to come with me so they can ride in the van. I kind of miss my peaceful rides to the store and being in charge of the radio. Oh well, I'm sure the newness will wear off eventually.

Becca's first day of school

Here is Becca on her first day of 8th grade. I can't believe how fast she is growing up!!
